Yao Ming to miss rest of season

Houston Rockets All-Star center Yao Ming is out for the season with a stress fracture in his left foot, a stunning blow to the surging Rockets. Yao was having a terrific season, averaging 22 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. If Yao chooses surgery, it would involve placing screws across the bone to hold it together. The second option would be to treat it with a cast and crutches. Both options involve a healing time of about four months. It is unclear when Yao could play again, but he is not expected to miss the Beijing Olympics in August. NBA news & notes

The arms race in the NBA's Western Conference just got more interesting as the long rumored trade sending Jason Kidd from the New Jersey Nets to the Dallas Mavericks is finally done. The primary player in the deal heading to the Nets is Devin Harris...... In other NBA news, Shaquille O'Neal is expected to be in the starting lineup when he makes his Phoenix Suns debut against the Los Angeles Lakers on 2/20 in Phoenix in what has turned into one of the most anticipated matchups of the regular season...... Speaking of the Lakers, fresh off their NBA record 7-2 road trip, they returned to Staples Center Tuesday night and proceeded to run the Atlanta Hawks off the court. Pau Gasol scored 23 points in his home debut and Kobe Bryant (injured pinky and all) also scored 23. Looking for Lakers tickets or NBA tickets? The Police return with more U.S. dates

Rock icons, The Police, who last year reunited for what turned out to be 2007's top-grossing tour, have rolled out the itinerary for what they're saying will be their last-ever round of shows together, and have tapped Elvis Costello & The Imposters to occupy the opening slot. The trio plans to launch its final tour May 1, and will spend the remainder of that month hitting about a dozen US cities. A European tour follows in June, and a second batch of US shows is set for July and August, with the group eyeing an Aug. 4 finale at Jones Beach in New York. Keep an eye on www.TicketRequest.com/concerts.html for Police tickets and all Concert tickets to the show of your choice!

Lakers return home from successful road trip

The Los Angeles Lakers just capped off a very successful 9 game road trip (longest in team history) with an impressive 7-2 record that puts them at 35-17 overall. They make their Los Angeles return and Pau Gasol makes his Staples Center debut on Feb. 19th. However, there is some slightly worrisome news, as Kobe Bryant has re-injured the already bothersome pinky on his shooting hand. Kobe has opted to put off surgery, which could sideline him up to six weeks, until after the season and the Olympics this summer. On the positive side, he and the rest of his teammates have the NBA All Star Game break to rest up, recover from injuries and prepare for the 2nd half of the season. In addition, the presence of the newly acquired Gasol continues to offset the loss of injured Andrew Bynum and could also help pickup the slack if Kobe is not 100%. www.TicketRequest.com/sports.html has Lakers tickets and NBA tickets for all games and sections!

Shaquille O'Neal heads to Phoenix

Looks like Shaquille O'Neal will have another shot at an NBA Championship now that he has landed with the Phoenix Suns in a blockbuster trade completed today. O'Neal heads to Phoenix from the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. Apparently the Suns felt they needed to make a move in response to the Los Angeles Lakers recent trade for Pau Gasol. O'Neal's move west adds fuel to the already intense rivalry between the Suns, the Lakers and his old teammate Kobe Bryant. How the aging Shaq's rugged post game will mesh with the Suns high octane run and gun attack remains to be seen. Lakers get Pau Gasol from Grizzlies!

The Los Angeles Lakers have just announced they have acquired All Star Forward Pau Gasol (and a 2010 2nd round draft pick) from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie and the draft rights to Pau's brother Marc Gasol (plus 2008 & 2010 1st round draft picks). The move appears to be the Lakers attempt to continue to build on this seasons early success and avoiding a letdown (similar to last season) following Andrew Bynum's injury which will keep him out at least another 5 weeks or so. The arrival of Gasol, even in Bynum's absence, should be enough to keep the Lakers in contention in the Western Conference. Once Bynum does return, the Lakers will then have a very formidable lineup of Andrew Bynum at Center, Pau Gasol at Power Forward, Lamar Odom at Small Forward, Kobe Bryant at Shooting Guard and Derek Fisher at Point Guard. That lineup, coupled with strong reserves on the bench (Jordan Farmar, Ronny Turiaf, Sasha Vujacic, Vlad Radmonovic, Luke Walton, Chris Mihm, etc.) will instantly be in contention for the NBA Championship this season and due to the relative youth of the roster, for several seasons to come. If you are looking to catch the new look Lakers at Staples Center, be sure to check www.TicketRequest.com/sports.html
